ABOUT

A proposed design for a private multi-national corporation, seeking a climatically responsive building to that would become a landmark and catalyst for development.

Description

One Gold Street is a mixed-use, predominantly commercial, project located on the waterfront of Kingston Jamaica. The Client, a private multi-national corporation, wished for a climatically responsive building, which through design, would become a landmark and catalyst for development in the regeneration of downtown Kingston. The copper-coated exoskeleton design allowed for column-less interior spaces which was key on the narrow 50’ wide site. Visually expressing the structural components on the east in front of the thermally insulated glass offers interesting views to and from the building. Other climatic features include a thermal wall to the west, a brise-soleil to the south, and photo voltaic cells integrated with the roof structure above a recycled grey-water-fed roof garden. Entry to the building is via the double height covered piazza that runs adjacent to Gold Street and connects via wide steps to Port Royal Street. Other public spaces include a full height seven-storey atrium with a wing shaped roof and oculus to allow natural light, a restaurant, gym, and roof gallery.
