ABOUT

Set upon a steep, densely forested hillside, the meditation space(s) appears as a transparent lattice, similar to a bird’s nest, camouflaged amongst the trees.

DESCRIPTION

As an idea, the space was conceived as a series of small pods that allowed the user to meditate or receive physical therapy while overlooking the serene bay of San San beach. The site is challenging with its steep slope and dense forestation, and an early decision was made by the design team to leave as much of the site intact as possible. The use of pilotis to support small, visually camouflaged pods allows the construct to blend in with its natural environment. The pods are physically permeable as the majority of walls consist of operable doors clad in timber to give the appearance of a bird’s nest. The roof provides the majority of protection from the natural elements, as the main purpose of the meditation space is to connect the user visually and physically with the surrounding context.
