A contemporary residence developed on a steeply sloping site which has previously been terraced for development.
The design challenge for the proposed residence involved creating a functionally suitable program on a site that had been previously terraced for development prior to the engagement of Atelier-Vidal. The existing terracing of the land allowed for the spatial programming of the house to develop as horizontal planes, with the main services areas on the lowest plane, with a rising hierarchy of living spaces in the middle and bedrooms on the top level. With a south facing view, sun-screens were used to protect the bedrooms, while a steeply sloping pitched roof was placed above the bathrooms and internal atrium to allow indirect light into the spaces.
