A residence with a terraced program to fit the natural topography of the site.
The Client asked for two design options to be developed. The design style for both options is Caribbean contemporary, with steep pitched roofs juxtaposed against linear surfaces, with a material mix of concrete, stone, glass and rich dark woods such as mahogany screens and Brazilian jatoba decks and wall cladding. The designs were focused on a contextual and climatic response in an attempt to maximise the potential of the site. As the site slopes up, the immediate instinct was to produce a terraced design that nestles into the slope rather than protrude. We chose to embrace the natural elements of the site, which led to a more interesting design and will also be more cost effective.
